USFA LODD: Georgia Firefighter On-Duty Death Notification 01.21.2020

On Monday, January 20, 2020, Firefighter John Kevin Cash, 43, worked a 24-hour shift at the Roswell Fire Department.  The next morning, Tuesday, January 21, 2020, the incoming day crew noticed that he had not yet left the station to go home.  They entered his bunk room to awaken him but found him deceased.  The nature and cause of his death are currently under investigation.

USFA LODD: Alaska Firefighter On-Duty Death Notification 01.18.2020

On Saturday, January 18, 2020, Driver-Operator Roger D. DeLongchamp, 66, was preparing to depart the station in a tanker on an emergency response for a reported structure fire when he collapsed.  He was immediately treated by other responders but efforts were unsuccessful.  Driver-Operator DeLongchamp was declared deceased at 0300hrs from an apparent heart attack.

USFA LODD: Connecticut Firefighter On-Duty Death Notification 01.19.2020

On Sunday, January 19, 2020, Fire Marshal Timothy P. Smith, 59, was returning home after responding to a house fire in Orange, CT.  His vehicle left the road and hit a tree.  Fire Marshal Smith died instantly from the injuries he sustained in the accident.

USFA LODD: Minnesota Firefighter On-Duty Death Notification 01.13.2020

On Sunday, January 12, 2020, late in the evening, Chief Daryl “Taddy” Drusch, 49, responded to an EMS call for a car submerged in ice.  Early Monday morning, January 13, 2020, he suffered an apparent heart attack at his home and was rushed to the hospital where he passed away.

USFA LODD: Texas Firefighter On-Duty Death Notification 01.11.2020


On Saturday, January 11, 2020, Lieutenant David Eric Hill, 39, and another firefighter responded to the scene of a vehicle crash on the northbound lanes of Interstate 27 in Lubbock, Texas.  While working at the scene, Lieutenant Hill, the firefighter, and a police officer were hit by a passing vehicle.  Lieutenant Hill and the firefighter were immediately transported to the hospital where Lieutenant Hill passed away from the injuries he sustained.  The other firefighter is listed in critical condition. The police officer died at the scene.

USFA LODD: Alabama Firefighter On-Duty Death Notification 01.10.2020

On Friday, January 10, 2020, Fire Chief John A. Bresnan, 58, was found unresponsive in his office at the Homewood Fire and Rescue Service.  He was immediately transported to Brookwood Baptist Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased from a medical emergency that has yet to be determined.

USFA LODD: West Virginia Firefighter On-Duty Death Notification 01.11.2020

On Saturday, January 11, 2020, Firefighter Mark Horwich, 51, was responding to a structure fire in an engine when it was involved in a rollover crash.  Firefighter Horwich died at the scene from the injuries he sustained in the crash.

USFA LODD: Maryland Firefighter On-Duty Death Notification 01.05.2020

On Saturday, December 28, 2019, Assistant Engineer Otis L. Isaacs, Jr., 73, was fixing a break on a fire engine and was on stand-by for two responses.  While on stand-by, he assisted with a function the fire department was having that evening by setting up tables and chairs.  He returned to the station the next morning, Sunday, December 29, 2019, to work on another fire department vehicle.  When he returned home late that morning, at approximately 1130hrs., he suffered a cardiac arrest and passed away.

USFA LODD: Missouri Firefighter On-Duty Death Notification 01.05.2020

On Sunday, January 5, 2020, at approximately 1104hrs., Firefighter Charles “Chuck” McCormick, 30, responded to a residential structure fire.  When Firefighter McCormick entered the structure, the floor collapsed and he fell into the basement.  He was rushed to the Belton Regional Medical Center where he later passed away from the injuries he sustained in the fall.
