<div><span style="font-size: large;">City firefighters had been called to this property at least twice in recent weeks to extinguish small fires that apparently had been set by people trying to keep warm. The house was split into two separate apartments and at least two people were home at the time the fire broke out. </p><p>Fire Department Officials stated the structure suffered significant damage both inside and outside. Heavy damage to the house was sustained to the second floor and attic of the home, and is considered uninhabitable.</p>

The garage fire was located at 25 Avon St. in the Westover area.</p><p>Johnson City Fire Marshal Bob Blakeslee stated there were no injuries reported in this fire, and that the cause of the fire was a propane stove being used inside the garage. Heavy black smoke could be seen billowing into the air from the garage fire, with neighbors stating at the scene that they heard a loud booming noise before seeing the fire.</p>

Fontana, of Endicott, NY, </span>for the traffic violation of Moving From Lane Unsafely following the investigation of a car vs. pedestrian crash on State Route 38, in the Town of Newark Valley, on February 15, 2023.</p><p style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #222222; font-family: "Open Sans"; margin-bottom: 1rem; margin-top: 0px;">Fontana is accused of leaving the southbound lane of travel in an unsafe manner and striking four pedestrians who were walking along the shoulder of the roadway. Three of the four pedestrians, <span style="box-sizing: border-box; font-weight: bolder;">66-year old John Stephens, 25-year old Kurtis Acker </span>and<span style="box-sizing: border-box; font-weight: bolder;"> 52-year old Doreen Wood</span>, all from Newark Valley, died as a result of the collision. Another pedestrian, a 27-year old female, also from Newark Valley, was flown from the scene by LifeNet Air to Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse, NY, and has since been released from the Hospital.</p><p style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #222222; font-family: "Open Sans"; margin-bottom: 1rem; margin-top: 0px;">The investigation into this motor vehicle crash included a search warrant for the vehicle involved and the electronics within, as well as a subpoena for cell phone records. Trzepacz, Sr., 67, attended a mandatory meeting at the fire department to review and discuss new recruitment applications. He informed the 2nd Vice President that he was not feeling well, left the meeting, and returned home. Later that day, at 1355hrs, Basso was driving in the downtown area of Kalama when his vehicle collided with several parked vehicles. He was unconscious and not breathing, suffering a cardiac arrest. Citizen CPR was immediately initiated by a nearby off-duty Portland firefighter, 911 was summonsed, and Cowlitz County Fire District 5 resources arrived on-scene. The firefighter who was with him was able to stop the fire apparatus and call for help. Grant Township firefighters and EMS personnel immediately performed life-saving measures. Firefighter Buitendorp was then transported to the Mercy Health Lakeshore Hospital where attempts to revive him were unsuccessful. As he drove on a gravel portion of the road, he lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle rolled and Captain Gallo was ejected. He was transported to the Toledo Hospital where, after all attempts at resuscitation were exhausted, Captain Gallo was pronounced deceased from injuries sustained.
