Firefighter Harold Boone, 49, while on-duty at the fire station, contracted COVID-19 from fellow firefighters who had subsequently tested positive for the virus. He passed away from the disease on November 2, 2020.

USFA LODD: Texas Firefighter On-Duty Death Notification 10.16.2020

During the early morning hours of Friday, October 16, 2020, Arson Investigator Lemuel Bruce, 44, and other members of the Arson Division, Houston Fire Department, tracked down a possible lead to arsons being set in the Houston area. When they arrived at the Timbergrove neighborhood, a suspect fatally shot Arson Investigator Bruce. The suspect was discovered deceased from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

USFA LODD: Georgia Firefighter On-Duty Death Notification 10.17.2020

While on duty, Captain Keith Obrian Williams, 54, was found unresponsive by fellow firefighters at the Camilla Fire Department early on October 17, 2020. Life-saving efforts began immediately but were not successful. The nature and cause of fatal injury are still to be determined.

USFA LODD: Georgia Firefighter On-Duty Death Notification 07.21.2020

On Tuesday, July 14, 2020, Firefighter Justin Robinson, 50, was at the scene of a motor vehicle accident performing extrication of injured patients. While at the crash site, he went into cardiac arrest.  Crews immediately initiated life saving measures and Firefighter Robinson was transported to the local hospital, where he passed away on Tuesday, July 21, 2020.

USFA LODD: Georgia Firefighter On-Duty Death Notification 01.21.2020

On Monday, January 20, 2020, Firefighter John Kevin Cash, 43, worked a 24-hour shift at the Roswell Fire Department.  The next morning, Tuesday, January 21, 2020, the incoming day crew noticed that he had not yet left the station to go home.  They entered his bunk room to awaken him but found him deceased.  The nature and cause of his death are currently under investigation.

On Wednesday, December 4, 2019, at approximately 1545hrs., Firefighter George “Johnny” Childs, 67, responded to a residential structure fire.  The next morning, Thursday, December 5, 2019, he was found unresponsive by his personal vehicle outside a local business.  He was immediately taken to the hospital where he passed away from cardiac arrest.

On August 8, 2018 Firefighter Barry Everett, 42, worked a 24-shift and responded to multiple emergencies, the last emergency being at 0000 hrs. During shift change, at 0800hrs, Firefighter Barry Everett was found deceased in bed at the fire station. The nature and cause of fatal injury are still to be reported.

On March 30, 2018 late in the evening of his scheduled shift and after conducting search and rescue drills in full protective gear including SCBA, Firefighter Adam Taylor, 30, began to complain of chest pains he related to a muscle pull.  Shortly after leaving work to go home because of the pain, Firefighter Taylor went into cardiac arrest and was pronounced deceased upon arrival at a local hospital.

Firefighter Gregory Jackson, 50,  became ill at the end of his shift on April 14, 2018.  Firefighter Jackson was transported to a local hospital where he passed away on April 19, 2018. The nature and cause of fatal injury are still to be reported.

USFA LODD: Georgia Firefighter On-Duty Death Notification 03.12.2018

On March 12, 2018 Firefighter Stacey Leigh Boulware, 44, collapsed while on duty at Cobb County Fire Station 5.  Firefighter Boulware was reported to having responded to two emergency calls and passing a fire department physical agility test in the hours prior to her falling ill. Firefighter Boulware was treated by fellow responders then transported to Kennestone Hospital where, despite all efforts, she succumbed to a nature and cause of fatal injury still to be determined.

On February 20, 2018 while performing fire department mandated physical fitness training, Captain Earnest McDuffie, 51, was running at a local park and fell unconscious. CPR was rendered immediately and Captain McDuffie was transported to Liberty Regional Medical Center where he passed away from a nature and cause of fatal injury still to be determined.

On May 18, 2017 several hours after answering an emergency response call during his normally scheduled shift, Battalion Chief John Chester, 56, passed away while at home of a yet to be determined cause.

Firefighter-Paramedic Michael Norton, 38, worked an early morning residential structure fire on March 1, 2017. At home, several hours later, Firefighter-Paramedic Norton was found by his wife in medical distress. She called 911 and responders treated Firefighter-Paramedic Michael Norton then transported him to the hospital where he succumbed to a nature and cause of fatal injury still to be determined.

USFA LODD: Georgia Firefighter On-Duty Death Notification 11.19.2016

On November 19, 2016 at 1553hrs, Master Firefighter Michael W. Curry, 42, was involved in operations at an emergency incident on River Street late Saturday afternoon when he suffered an apparent medical condition. Emergency medical personnel attended to Master Firefighter Michael W. Curry on the scene and were escorted in their transport of the firefighter to Memorial University Medical Center. Master Firefighter Michael W. Curry passed away at the hospital Saturday evening.

USFA LODD: Georgia Fire Lieutenant On-Duty Death Notification 05.04.2015

Fire Lieutenant Ricky Thurman, 54,  while operating at the scene of a structure fire on April 24, 2015 suddenly went into cardiac arrest. Immediate efforts to revive Lt. Thurman were successful and he was airlifted to Regents University Hospital in Augusta, Georgia where he passed away on May 4, 2015.

USFA LODD: Georgia Fire Lieutenant On-Duty Death Notification 02.12.2015

Lieutenant Randy Parker, 46, on February 12, 2015 was pronounced dead at Medical Center-Navicent Health and at least five other firefighters were injured after a structural collapse occurred while fire crews were operating inside of a burning residential structure. According to media reports, the Bibb County coroner said Lieutenant Parker died from burns and smoke inhalation. Three of the injured firefighters are being treated at the Augusta Burn Center; one of the three was in critical condition and airlifted to the Center. The fatal fire incident remains under investigation by authorities.

USFA: Georgia Fire Lieutenant LODD: On-Duty Death 12.15.2013

On December 12, 2013 at 0020hrs, crews were performing overhaul operations on a residential structure fire when the ceiling collapsed trapping Fire Lieutenant Jeff Little, 50. Rescue efforts were immediately initiated and Fire Lt. Little was transported to the Mayo Clinic of Waycross where he succumbed to injuries sustained in the collapse. According to fire department officials, the fire has been ruled intentionally set and Fire Lieutenant Jeff Little’s death is being investigated as a homicide.

USFA: Georgia On-Duty Death 03.07.2013

It is with great sadness that the Marietta Fire Department announces the tragic loss of one of its own. 

Firefighter Engineer Lonnie Nutt, 49, of the Marietta Fire Department, Georgia, on March 7, 2012 at 1620hrs, responded to a motor vehicle accident and was the driver of the apparatus accompanied by two other firefighters.  After arriving on the scene, the firefighters were performing aid to the injured motorist when Firefighter Engineer Nutt collapsed.  Aid was immediately given and Firefighter Engineer Nutt was rushed to the hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. 

Lonnie Nutt began his career with the City of Marietta in May of 1994. He has served Marietta as a firefighter, inspector, investigator and currently firefighter engineer.
