USFA LODD: Pennsylvania Firefighter On-Duty Death Notification 06.27.2018

Fire Lieutenant Benny Hutchins, 62, was participating in a survival training exercise at the Philadelphia Fire Academy on June 25, 2018 when he experienced a medical emergency. He was transported to Aria Torresdale Hospital where he passed away two days later on June 27, 2018 from a nature and cause of fatal injury still to be reported.

Our condolences to the Hutchins Family & Friends, Philadelphia Fire Department, and to all affected by Fire Lieutenant Benny Hutchins’s passing.

USFA LODD: Texas Firefighter On-Duty Death Notification 06.26.2018

On June 25, 2018 Fire Cadet Devon Coney, 34, was performing physical fitness activities at the Austin Fire Department Training Academy when he suffered a medical emergency.  He was taken to Saint David's South Austin Medical Center where he passed away a short time later on June 26, 2018.  The nature and cause of the medical emergency has yet to be determined.

USFA LODD: Ohio Firefighter On-Duty Death Notification 06.24.2018

On June 24, 2018 Firefighter/EMT Joe Patterson, 33, was working with compressed air cylinders at the Paint Creek Joint EMS/Fire District Station 22 when he was critically injured by one of the cylinders.  He was airlifted to the Kettering Medical Center where he passed away from injuries sustained in the accident.

USFA LODD: California Firefighter On-Duty Death Notification 06.25.2018



On June 25, 2018 Captain Dave Rosa, 45, was shot while responding to a reported fire at the Covenant Manor, a senior living facility in Long Beach, California. Captain Rosa was transported to St. Mary Medical Center but passed away from the injuries he sustained. A person of interest is in custody and investigation into the incident continues.

Firefighter William Moore IV, 48, suffered a fatal heart attack during a training exercise on June 14, 2018.

USFA LODD: New Jersey Firefighter On-Duty Death Notification 06.10.2018

On December 11, 1983 Firefighter Douglas C. Ambrozewycz, 60, responded to a building fire at 102 Smith Street (Frank's Bakery) with Protection Hook & Ladder Company # 1. While engaged in fire suppression, a section of the first floor collapsed, sending him through the floor into the fire below.  He was injured with 2nd & 3rd degree burns and received extensive medical care including numerous blood transfusions. Due to the required blood transfusions for the injuries sustained, he contracted Hepatits C which appeared many years later. This disease caused many debilitating health conditions including liver failure which ultimately caused his death on June 10, 2018.

USFA LODD: Texas Firefighter On-Duty Death Notification 06.10.2018

On June 10, 2018 while performing wildland firefighting operations, Firefighter Richard "Andy" Loller, Jr., 42, suffered a medical emergency. Firefighter Loller was flown by helicopter to receive medical treatment and was stabilized before being placed on a medical airplane to receive further treatment at a hospital in Odessa, Texas. While in flight, Firefighter Richard "Andy" Loller, Jr. passed away from a nature and cause of fatal injury still to be reported.

Our condolences to the Loller Family & Friends, Weatherford Fire Department, and to all affected by Firefighter Richard "Andy" Loller, Jr.'s passing.

USFA LODD: North Carolina Firefighter On-Duty Death Notification 06.10.2018

On June 6, 2018 while en route to a water rescue at Morrow Mountain State Park with confirmed persons in the water, Firefighter Dakota Snavely, 17, was involved in a motor vehicle crash with a commercial motor vehicle on Hwy 205. Firefighter Snavely passed away from traumatic injuries sustained during the crash. The incident is under investigation by the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

On June 6, 2018 Fire Police Officer Grant L. Froman, 55, was performing maintenance on Service 9, the traffic control unit, when he passed away from an apparent heart attack.

USFA LODD: North Carolina Firefighter On-Duty Death Notification 06.03.2018

On 05/31/2018 at 2100hrs, Fire Chief Tony Spencer III, 51, finished participating in a Firefighter I & II Hose certification class. A few hours later at approximately 0130hrs on 06/01/2018, Chief Spencer suffered a cardiac arrest at his residence and was airlifted to Norfolk Medical Center. Chief Fire Chief Tony Spencer III passed away on 06/03/2018 at Norfolk Medical Center from the injuries sustained.

Our condolences to the Spencer Family & Friends, Engelhard Fire & Rescue, and to all affected by Fire Chief Tony Spencer III's passing.
