Service Restored On Market-Frankford Line After 4-Alarm Fire - Philadelphia News, Weather and Sports from WTXF FOX 29

PHILADELPHIA (boston.com) —A four-alarm fire in a vacant north Philadelphia warehouse left a firefighter injured after a fall and disrupted public transit, authorities said.

The blaze in the four-story building in the Fishtown section of the city was reported at about 2:30 a.m. The flames burned out of control for almost two hours before fire officials pronounced the blaze under control, but crews were still pouring water on the smoking ruins well after daybreak.

The blaze happened near the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority's Market-Frankford Elevated Line, forcing service to be halted and replaced with shuttle buses between two stops. Commuters were warned to expect delays and crowded conditions through the morning. SEPTA said late Tuesday afternoon that it had resumed full service on the line.

The Philadelphia Inquirer said one firefighter was taken to Hahnemann University Hospital, where he was reported in stable condition.

Fire Commissioner Lloyd Ayers said no evacuations were ordered but some nearby residents left their homes on their own. The cause of the fire was under investigation.



On-Scene of a 4th Alarm Warehouse Fire in the City of Philadelphia, Tactical Box 0243 was dispatched around 0230 hours for a 4 story warehouse. Engine 29 only a few blocks away declared the working fire and struck a 2nd alarm on arrival, shortly after that the 3rd alarm was struck and all units went in service with heaviest water lines. As the fire raged command struck the 4th alarm and special called an extra ladder and water tower, the fire was declared under control around 0430 hrs but crews remained on location for an extended period of time. One firefighter suffered a minor injury after a fall and the building was a total loss, fire is under investigation.



Engine-29 arrived on scene with heavy fire showing from a three story vacant factory, placed all hands in service. B/C-4 arrived and requested the second struck. All companies in service with heaviest water lines. Command reported an exposure problem and requested the third alarm. Deputy 1 requested the 4th alarm struck. S/C 2 additonal ladders and Squrt 43 above the 4th Alarm. 1 Firefighter was transported the the hospital in serious condition.

Two-Alarm Fire: Queens N.Y. Warehouse

Here is the audio and video of a 2-alarm response to a fire that took place on Saturday, 1/14/12, in Queens, N.Y.. The New York City Fire Department (NYFD) performed a quick knock down & extinguishment to the fire at a two story warehouse located at the corner of 132 Ave / Rockaway Blvd.

No one was injured at this fire, and cause to the fire is under investigation.

Former Derby Factory Outlet Building Fire: Binghamton NY

A two-alarm fire began to blaze this morning in the city of Binghamton, New York, at around 07:40 am, to where heavy smoke could be seen pouring out of a four-story brick building which was the former Derby Fashion Outlet building at 301 Water Street around Clinton Street. The high volume of smoke was reported being seen from several neighboring community around the City of Binghamton

The fire response was upgraded to a second alarm while firefighters heading to the scene, Binghamton Fire Chief Daniel Thomas said.

Crews remained outside the building to fight the fire due to the heat. These types of fires can be especially difficult to knock down and combat for extinguishment. The warehouse was believed to be abandoned also.

When they arrived, firefighters saw fire coming from multiple floors in the four-story brick building and heavy smoke, Thomas said. Because of the intense heat and fears of a possible collapse, firefighters set up about 75 feet from the building and poured water into the building using aerial trucks.

Part of the building collapsed as Binghamton firefighters were entering their fifth hour of putting out a fire at 301 Water Street in the former Derby Factory Outlet building. There are no reports of injuries.

After firefighting operations were into the fifth hour, portions of the third & fourth floors, and the roof had collapsed; another major collapse happened about 45 minutes later. The building is a total loss, Thomas said.

About 40 firefighters were on the scene at the height of the fire that was under control, but not extinguished by mid-morning. No one was hurt in the fire.

Due to a fire at the Derby Building located at 301 Water Street in downtown Binghamton, the Broome County Health Department had issued a respiratory alert for those in the vicinity of the fire. This included, center city extending northeast between Front Street and Brandywine Ave Route 7. Humid conditions had prolonged smoke dissipation in the area. Those located within this area were advised to take precautions and to avoid unnecessary smoke inhalation by staying indoors and avoid travel in the area of the warehouse fire till containment/extinguishment was completed by the Binghamton Fire department.
