USFA LODD: Tennessee Firefighter On-Duty Death Notification 02.18.2019

District Chief (Station 14) Jason Byrd, 42, suffered an apparent heart attack while at the scene of a residential structure fire. Within 15 seconds of the medical emergency, responders administered advanced life support measures to Chief Byrd and then transported him to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

USFA LODD: Tennessee Firefighter On-Duty Death Notification 02.12.2018

On February 12, 2018 Firefighter Jason Dickey, 38, died from injuries sustained in a structural collapse while operating at the scene of a residential structure fire. Two other firefighters were injured in the collapse and taken to the hospital. 

The fire started in a two-story residence along Lakeview Drive at around 1630hrs. According to media reports, crews transmitted a “Mayday Emergency” near 2000hrs when the three firefighters became trapped as the result of a collapse.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by authorities.

USFA LODD: Tennessee Firefighter On-Duty Death Notification 01.17.2018

On January 17, 2018 Firefighter Derrick Ryan Webb, 31, fell ill while preparing a training drill at the fire station. Firefighter Webb was found unresponsive in the apparatus bay beside his turn-out gear and SCBA. The PASS device on the SCBA was still sounding. CPR was initiated but Firefighter Webb was pronounced deceased at the hospital from a nature and cause of fatal injury still to be reported.

USAF LODD: Tennessee Fire Lieutenant On-Duty Death Notification 10.07.2015

On October 6, 2015 at 1900hrs., Fire Lieutenant Antonio Smith, 46, fewer then 24 hours after responding to an emergency call with the Memphis Fire Department, was found deceased near his residence inside his personal vehicle. The nature and cause of Lieutenant Smith's fatal injury are still to be reported.

USFA LODD: Tennessee Fire Lieutenant On-Duty Death Notification 05.25.2015

Fire Lieutenant Terrance Morgan Pryor, 48, on May 25, 2015 several hours after responding to the last emergency call of his shift, Lieutenant Pryor became ill and passed away at his residence. The nature and cause of fatal injury is still to be reported.

USFA LODD: Tennessee Firefighter On-Duty Death Notification 05.03.2015

On May 3, 2015 at 0200hrs, Firefighter Christopher M. Blankenship, 41, while working at the scene of a motor vehicle accident with fire was seriously injured when a tree at the scene fell on top of him. Firefighters quickly removed the tree from Firefighter Blankenship and rendered medical aid. Christopher M. Blankenship was then transported to the Jackson-Madison County General Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

USFA LODD: Tennessee Firefighter On-Duty Death 12.09.2014

Firefighter Gus Losleben, 69, on December 9, 2014 at 1030hrs., died from injuries received when the fire department tanker he was operating in response to a working structure fire collided head-on with a loaded logging truck. The driver of the logging truck was also killed in the accident, the cause which remains under investigation by authorities.

Tennessee Firefighter On-Duty Death 02.24.2013

A short time after responding to and fighting a brush fire on Sunday evening, February 24, 2013, at 1702hrs Firefighter Schnepp, 43,  passed away from a cause still to be determined.

The  Carters Valley Volunteer Fire Department  was dispatched to a brush fire at 5:02 p.m. Sunday, and Fire Chief Mike Yates said firefighter Schnepp died sometime after that call ended.

Firefighter Schnepp had been with the Carters Valley Volunteer Fire Department for about three years, and previously served with the Lakeview, Bulls Gap and Striggersville fire departments, and served more than 20 years.
