USFA LODD: New Jersey Firefighter On-Duty Death Notification 10.23.2017

Firefighter Edward J. Frenenski, 31, was participating in vehicle extrication training during a fire department drill at the county fire training academy. While performing a practical evolution, he suffered an apparent seizure, and was immediately treated by FD and EMS personnel on scene. He subsequently went into cardiac arrest while being transported to a local hospital, and CPR was initiated. Hospital emergency room staff continued with life-saving measures to no avail. Firefighter Frenenski, a life-saving organ donor at the time of his passing, was pronounced deceased approximately 2.5 hours later.

Our condolences to the Frenenski Family & Friends, Stanhope Hose Company 1, and to all affected by Edward J. Frenenski’s passing.

To date, 76 firefighter fatalities have been reported to USFA in 2017. Year-to-date monthly and annual USFA firefighter fatality reports are posted online at U.S. Fire Administration (USFA) Fatality Notices page.
