Firefighting Crews Repond To Late Night Structral Fire In Waverly New York

 









Firefighting crews responded to reports of an overnight fire causing heavy damage to a building in a structure fire in the Village of Waverly, Tioga County NY.

Waverly Fire Chief Don Howard stated the fire broke out at 458 Pennsylvania Ave., in the Town of Waverly around 10:30 p.m. Thursday night.

At the fire scene, no visible flames were seen but heavy smoke filled the area as it came out of the top of the building. Heavy smoke and flames were coming from the back of the building, and Fire Chie Howard said it was largely contained to one room on the third floor.


Firefighting crews from Waverly, Barton, Sayre and Athens Borough utilized ladder trucks to get to the top of the 3rd story structure to get inside and stop fire from spreading. Fire crews perfomed ventalating that enable to calm the smoke down by breaking the windows.

No injuries have been reported and all occupants evacuated without incident. The Tioga County NY fire investigators responded and were on the scene to determine the cause of the fire.

Firefighters Battle Structral Fire Waverly New York - 01.01.2015

TIOGA COUNTY, N.Y.
Tioga County firefighters responded at 11:30 a.m. Thursday to a structral fire at 369 Broad Street in downtown Waverly, New York

One person was taken to the hospital and treated for non-life-threatening burns after a fire spread through a three-story building early Thursday afternoon.




A cooking fire broke out in the building around noon, and crews were still working on the scene more than five hours later.













A tenant of the apartment was taken to the hospital with minor burns to his arms, chest and face.

Firefighting crews were still battling the blaze hours later, but were able to contain the fire to one building.

Investigators said grease is what sparked flames in the kitchen of a third-floor Waverly apartment.

Both commercial and residential spaces, had been deemed a total loss by Thursday evening, according to Tioga County Fire Coordinator John Scott.

No other injuries were reported.

1 dead, 2 hurt in Waverly NY Apartment House Fire













Waverly firefighters, the Sayre Fire Department and Greater Valley Emergency Medical Services from Sayre, Pennsylvania, responded to an early morning fire 2:30 Friday morning at 7 Ithaca Street, Waverly NY in Tioga County. Waverly-Barton Fire Officials said when they arrived at the scene; smoke and fire were spewing out of the home. "On arrival, we found the house fully involved in fire," said Jeff Wheeler, first assistant fire chief of the Waverly Barton Fire Department.

There were two other people in the upstairs apartment that had to jump to safety before we were on the scene" said Assistant Fire Chief Jeff Waverly. Firefighters pulled one person out of the downstairs apartment. A Waverly man that was taken to Robert Packer Hospita is dead after the fire that took place in Tioga County, New York. The two other persons taken to the hospital had non-life threatening injuries.
















After about an hour of firefighting the fire was knocked down and brought under control, with firefighting crews staying on the fireground scene till 10 a.m. to ensure no rekindle of fire would happen.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. Tioga County Fire Investigators and Waverly Village Police are conducting the investigation.
