Tioga County firefighters responded at 11:30 a.m. Thursday to a structral fire at 369 Broad Street in downtown Waverly, New York
One person was taken to the hospital and treated for non-life-threatening burns after a fire spread through a three-story building early Thursday afternoon.
A cooking fire broke out in the building around noon, and crews were still working on the scene more than five hours later.
A tenant of the apartment was taken to the hospital with minor burns to his arms, chest and face.
Firefighting crews were still battling the blaze hours later, but were able to contain the fire to one building.
Investigators said grease is what sparked flames in the kitchen of a third-floor Waverly apartment.
Both commercial and residential spaces, had been deemed a total loss by Thursday evening, according to Tioga County Fire Coordinator John Scott.
No other injuries were reported.
