North Dakota Firefighter/Diver On-Duty Death

The U.S. Fire Administration has announced the official on-duty death of Firefighter/Photographer Jim Reardon, 51, of the Fire Academy of North Dakota on August 4, 2012.

While participating in an exploratory dive in preparation for an upcoming North Dakota Fire Academy SCUBA exercise, Firefighter Reardon passed away from a cause still to be determined.

The Fire Academy of North Dakota firefighter died Saturday during an exploratory dive in preparation for a training exercise in a Minnesota lake.

Firefighter Jim Reardon, also a photographer for the academy, was on and was surveying the lake in preparation for the Aug. 18 dive when he died, according to a statement from Fire Chief Darrell Graf.

Our condolences to the Reardon Family & Friends, the Fire Academy of North Dakota, and to all affected by Firefighter Jim Reardon's passing.

To date, 49 firefighter fatalities have been reported to USFA in 2012. Year-to-date monthly and annual USFA firefighter fatality reports are posted online at U.S. Fire Administration (USFA) Fatality Notices page.
