Yonkers, New York Firefighter On-Duty Death

The U.S. Fire Administration has announced the official on-duty death of Firefighter Antonio Rodriques, 49, of the Yonkers Fire Department on July 31, 2012.

Firefighter Rodriques passed away from complications related to a hemorrhagic stroke he suffered during fire department training.

Antonio Rodrigues, a 12-year member of the Yonkers Fire Department, was taken off life support Tuesday night at Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, Mayor Mike Spano’s spokeswoman, Christina Gilmartin, said Wednesday.

Mayor Spano’s office attributed the 49-year-old Rodrigues’ death to complications from a “hemorrhagic stroke” he suffered last month. A Fire Department memo said Rodrigues had been hospitalized July 18 as a result of “injuries sustained on May 9, 2012, while on duty and conducting department training.”

Our condolences to the Rodriques Family & Friends, the Yonkers Fire Department, and to all affected by Firefighter Antonio Rodriques' passing.

To date, 48 firefighter fatalities have been reported to USFA in 2012. Year-to-date monthly and annual USFA firefighter fatality reports are posted online at U.S. Fire Administration (USFA) Fatality Notices page.
