USFA LODD: Massachusetts Firefighter On-Duty Death Notification 03.30.2017

Firefighter Anthony Spano, 47, worked his shift which included one or more emergency response calls, including a “lift assist” call where he complained of back pain. Fewer than 24 hours later and just after coming off of his duty shift, Firefighter Spano on March 30, 2017 passed away from a nature and cause of fatal injury still to be reported when he fell ill while exercising at a gym.

Our condolences to the Spano Family & Friends, Chicopee Fire Department, and to all affected by Firefighter Anthony Spano’s passing.

To date, 26 firefighter fatalities have been reported to USFA in 2017. Year-to-date monthly and annual USFA firefighter fatality reports are posted online at U.S. Fire Administration (USFA) Fatality Notices page.
