On the evening of Thursday, April 16, 2015 at 1930hrs, Dakota City Fire and Rescue responded to a vehicle fire on Highway 35. As fire crews were preparing to leave the scene, Fire Captain Andrew "Andy" Zalme, 42, collapsed. Despite numerous attempts, fellow responders were unable to revive Andrew "Andy" Zalme and he passed away at the scene. A nature and cause of fatal injury has yet to be determined.
Our condolences to the Zalme Family & Friends, the Dakota City Fire and Rescue Department, and to all affected by Fire Captain Andrew "Andy" Zalme’s passing.
