On February 5, 2015 at 1430 hrs, while attempting to close off Illinois Route 111 to allow for a helicopter to land safely for a medical emergency, Fire Chief Kenneth Lehr, 59, was struck by a fire apparatus as it was backing up. Fire Chief Lehr passed away at the scene from injuries sustained when he was struck.
