Tioga House Fire 09.28.14, Under Investigation . . .

(Nichols, NY) Multiple vehicles and a garage caught fire on 345 Tuttle Rd just after four o'clock Sunday afternoon.

According to officials, the fire started in the detached garage later spreading to the cars and home. Three cars are totaled after the blaze. 




The home owner was home at the time of the fire and called it in. 

It took firefighters about three hours to get the fire under control. Fire officials say they still don't know the cause of that fire.
     

The attack on the outside of the building took about a half an hour. Then a interior attack, trenching the roof of the home in order to cut the fire in half to salvage the left portion of the home from any more damage.

Six fire departments were called to the fire ground scene. Fire departments from Nichols, Tioga Center, Owego, Wyndham (PA) were on scene to fight this structural fire.

No one was injured.

The fire is still under investigation.

USFA LODD – New York Firefighter Fatalities Notification 09.23.2014

Firefighter Allan Westby, 67, responded to an alarm on the evening of September 22nd and was found deceased at his residence the following morning on September 23, 2014. The nature and cause of fatal injury are still to be determined.

Fire Chief Charles W. Klett, South Side Fire Department, Passed Away Unexpectedly - September 19, 2014

Fire Chief Charles W. Klett, 44, passed away unexpectedly, Friday, September 19, 2014. Charles graduated from Owego Free Academy, Class of 1988, graduated from form Cobleskill Agriculture Business College. Charles owned and operated Northeast Implement. He was very community minded. Charles was currently serving his third year as Fire Chief of the Southside Fire Company, was an EMT, EMS Instructor, board member of the Tioga County Chamber of Commerce, and a graduate of Leadership Tioga. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 23, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church, 3917 Waverly Road, Owego with the Rev. Aaron Schian, officiating. Burial will follow in the Waits Cemetery. 

Charles W. Klett is survived by his wife, Gina Klett; daughter, Miranda Klett and her boyfriend, Zachary Beeman; parents, Dean and Ruth Klett; brother and sister-in-law, Daniel and Violeta; several nieces, nephews and cousins; dear friends, David and Theresa Radigan; his special four legged companion, Chiquitta.

USFA LODD – Kentucky Fire Captain Fatalities Notification 09.20.2014

Captain Anthony “Tony” Lynn Grider, 41, on September 20, 2014 , succumbed to injuries sustained 30 days earlier when he received a high-voltage electric shock during an "ALS ice water challenge" at Campbellsville University. Captain Grider and a second firefighter, who has since been released from the hospital and is recovering from his injuries, were both injured in the bucket of an aerial ladder truck when, according to reports, energy from a nearby power line arced to the bucket. 

Our condolences to the Grider Family & Friends, the Campbellsville Fire-Rescue Department, and to all affected by Firefighter John Derek Gupton's passing.
